In 2011 we moved to Utah from Idaho (yeah nothing too exciting in that). Dustin found a job after graduating from ISU and I went back to school. We came to Utah for school and knew that after graduation we would move on. Not move-back, because we are equally as uninterested at the prospect of moving back to Idaho as we are with staying in Utah. But we didn’t know where we wanted to live.
To help us narrow down the choices we wrote a list. The list spelled out what was most important to us such as more racial and religious diversity, somewhere warmer, and there must be jobs. The first states we considered were Oregon or Washington, perhaps Montana.
Then it the idea struck me (ok really my mom got me thinking about it) that we should move to somewhere tropical, exotic, and ripe with adventure. She also remind me that I know no one where we are thinking of moving, have no job lined up, and really don’t know if we will like it there (does it really rain that much in the Northwestern US?). My degree restricts me to living within a US jurisdiction but other than that we are free. So narrowing down the choices now gives us: Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.
After numerous hours of online research Dustin and I have found that the US Virgin Islands meets our requirements. There are jobs, semi-affordable housing, and BEACHES! Ok, beaches wasn’t a part of our requirements but it’s a pretty sweet benefit! So that is our plan… we are moving to the US Virgin Islands!* BUT we must get a few things completed here first like graduating from school, passing the bar, finding jobs, and actually getting our stuff there might be an adventure of its own. So our tentative departure date: Last week of May 2014.
This is roughly 16 months away. This blog will be where I share the experience.
*We understand that the US Virgin Islands is plural. Deciding which island will be one of many decisions that will have to be made. Hopefully, a job offer will decide which island for us!
Wow. I am so impressed by your partnership and ability to plan. I think you two have the world by the tail and I wish all of the luck in this next 16 months as the journey become all the more clear.
